I was diagnosed with Diabetes in October 2012. I was 149 lbs and 5 feet tall. At the time I thought, “no big deal! I’ll lose the weight, control my sugars with diet, exercise and take some medications!” Needless to say that didn’t work. I became exhausted and I was shocked to see that my body couldn’t even handle 10 g of carbs without my sugars spiking up. Metformin made me miserable and my 2-hr postprandial (after meal) sugars were over 200 with just 2 tablespoons of rice! I assumed I must have had a severe case of diabetes.
In 2014 I lost some weight by altering my diet. I based this diet my 2-hr post-meal blood sugars. My weight went down to 142 lbs (from 149 lbs)! I lost 7 lbs but there was no change in dress size! At the time I wore a size 10 or 12. One day, I told myself, “This is it. This is the year! I wasn’t born with diabetes hence I don’t need to live with it! I need to get to the basics.” That started my search for #curediabetes #reversediabetes #kickdiabetes #burydiabetes
In May of 2016, I finally decided to watch a lecture by Dr. Jason Fung that a friend of mine shared with me a few months before (I hate watching lectures!). On May 5th, 2016 I did my first 16:8 which marked the beginning of a fantastic journey (even if I didn’t know it at the time). I read and studied everything that Dr. Fung wrote. I was simply fascinated! From April 2016 to January 2017, I lost 3 inches. Needless to say, I was impressed and thrilled!
I joined the TFM program in June of 2017 with an A1C of 9.2 and fasting blood sugars of 200! I was afraid to do 24 hrs and longer fasts and hence decided I needed a coach! Nadia Pateguana was my coach, and I started doing 42 hr fasts 2 to 3 times a week. It was magical! From June of 2017 to February of 2018 I dropped to a size 2! I made many keto meals but treated myself to higher carb meals quite a few times a month. I learnt to feast and fast intelligently. My A1C came down to 6.5 (from 9.2) within 4 months. I don’t get fasting blood sugars of 200 anymore.
Today is March 25th of 2019 and I have come a long way! My blood sugars are always within the normal to prediabetic range. I have miles to go and my journey continues…
I am forever grateful to Dr. Jason Fung, Nadia Pateguana, Megan Ramos and everyone and anyone associated with the TFM program. I am grateful for the many friends I have made along my journey. I hope my story inspires someone to take charge of his/her life. Stay blessed!
