The benefits of hemp seeds

Plenty of minerals and great stress relief!

Hemp is a great source of healthy fats and protein. Derived from the Cannabis Satvia Plant, hemp seeds are one of the most nutritionally complete vegan food sources in the world.

Preparing for a Fast

IDM Educator Brenda Zorn gets ready for an extended fast

There are many ways to prepare for an extended fast. If you’ll be fasting for two days or more, prepare your environment to create a mindset. Fasting is a learned skill which is 80% psychological and 20% learning to manage electrolytes, hydration, etc.

Brenda ZornI create this fasting mindset by doing several things.

First, pre-planning may be necessary. I check my calendar for any holidays or any social events. It can be very derailing to be in the middle of a five-day fast and then remember you have a lunch date with your sisters mid-week. (Not an event I would want to miss!) So, double-check your schedule.

Next, I always clear out my kitchen. I plan so that any fresh groceries are used up, or I freeze them. I put away things like spices, nuts and dry goods which normally sit on my counter. I also put away my cast iron skillet which normally lives on my stovetop and any stray dishes. This gives the kitchen a streamlined look and sets the stage for my fast.

After that, I purchase plenty of filtered and carbonated water, plus my favorite coffees and teas that I will be using on my fast.

Also, it helps to plan out projects to accomplish while fasting. Many times, projects can be completed more easily during my fast, especially organizing and cleaning. I also enjoy writing much more in a fasted state.

Decide ahead of time what will be your go-to support system – whether it be friends or family who support fasting, podcasts, books or groups. Utilize them if necessary. There’s an active support system during our Member Community ZornFast on the IDM website. It’s always the second Monday of every month through the following Sunday.

Lastly, before you break your fast, begin to decide when you will fast again, because if you’re like me and many others, you enjoy fasting and look forward to the next one.
