I am still so excited about the IDM Program. It has changed my life, my attitude, my mental and physical part of me. I would have never thought that I was one to fast. I have done other weight loss programs over the years only to tire or become bored with the whole concept. However, IDM has changed my way of thinking.
I think it’s the fasting incorporated with the low (to no) sugar, low carb that’s allowed me to see rapid results. When I first joined the program, my major goal when I talked to my coach, Nadia, was to lose weight. However, it has become more than just weight loss, it has become a life change. In addition, at the beginning of January, when I did my annual physical, my blood pressure was 134/86; since being on the program, my blood pressure is now 120/80!
At 66 years old, I am a grandmother for the first time and my grandson being born February of this year has given me a new attitude towards being overall healthy. I no longer have high blood pressure issues from being overweight; my energy level is off the chain. In addition to going from a size 12 to 14 to 6 to 8 is absolutely mind-blowing. (I’m still in denial.). I have seen my girlfriends and my sisters that can not run and play with their grandchildren due to being unhealthy and overweight; I did not want this to be my story.
As of today, I have lost over 30 pounds. In addition, my energy level is awesome, my mental level is awesome, my overall being is awesome; people have even told me I am glowing.
The fast that works for me is the 24-hour fast. I start my week out on Sunday – eat at 10am, then the next meal at 4pm. Then I do not eat again until 4pm the next day; then back to 10am & 4pm, etc.
My major struggles, in the beginning, was giving up my nighttime snacking with chips, cookies, ice cream and popcorn. However, after that first week on IDM and dropping 5 lbs, I made the commitment that I could do this! There were many nights I just had to pray and cried because it was really hard. However, with the support of Nadia, my coach, I was able to identify many times what triggered those moments was boredom, seeing TV commercials with food and just bad habits that had just accumulated over the years! Again, as the weight dropped off; it became less of a need and the new dress size was enough to keep me going!
I will be honest; in the beginning I found what kept me motivated was weighing myself every day; this let me know what would trigger any amount of weight gain and, because I had come so far, I just knew that I could still have that piece of chocolate, that bag of popcorn, the margarita. I realized that timing is everything and as long as moderation and time of day played a major role.
The best advice I could give would be about my meal planning. I found as long as I planned my meal I would stay focused; meal planning allowed me to stay within the allotted time frame to see the best weight loss results.
IDM is a change of your lifestyle. Try not to be so hard on yourself because, even if you fall off the wagon, there’s no reason to feel like a loser. The recovery plan allows you to fast your way back to winning.
